Siemens SOFC surpasses 10,000 hours at the FCTec
04/17/2007

A 5kW Siemens Power Generation
Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) has been operating at the FCTec for over
10,000 hours. The system uses the new Siemens tubular SOFC design with
cells that have been fabricated using an atmospheric plasma spray process.
The system
began operation at the Siemens facility in Churchill, PA
in December 2004 where it operated successfully and without interruption for
2,304 hours. The system was
installed at the FCTec
and started in May 2005 and operated until February 2006. After
Siemens completed modifications to the system, it was restarted in August
2006. While at the FCTec the system has operated successfully for
over 10,000 hours and produced over 29,000 kWh of electrical energy and 25,000
kWh of thermal energy.
